Happy St. Patrick’s Day – Go Green in Your Home

Change light bulbs to - CLFS (compact fluorescent bulbs) last around !0K hours use 25% less energy or LED’s (light emitting diodes) LEDs around 100K hours and use around 90% less energy

Clean - with Baking Soda – It will clean just about anything

Landscape - with Trees and Bushes to provide shade and help block wind

  • Don’t use pesticides on your lawn

  • Collect rainwater to use for your landscaping

Recycle – newspaper, magazines, catalogs, plastic, glass – Many places offer free recycle drop off – Schools usually get funds for each dumpster filled

Reuse - grocery bags (leave in car so you’ll always have them with you)

Remodeling or updating – buy energy star appliances, install bamboo flooring, install solar panels

Shred – your paper – then reuse as packing material

De-clutter – It’s freeing to the spirit

Donate – anything reusable

  • Vet’s and animal shelters love to get your used towels and blankets

  • Donate your used books and magazines to Libraries

  • Just about anything in good shape can be donated to thrift stores. But if it's stained or has holes...just throw it away.

  • Freecycle.org

Sell – unwanted good condition items via garage sale, Craig’s list, e-bay, consignment shops

Buy – resale items (when you can) & buy things that will last

  • If you see litter – pick it up

  • Invest – in environmentally conscious mutual funds (find them at socialinvest.org).

  • Fill up your freezer, the fuller it is the less energy it uses

  • Buy in bulk (to avoid excess packaging)

  • Donate old cell phones (eco-cell.org)

  • Take your own mug or thermos to your favorite coffee spot

  • Purify indoor air with plants
